Project: ASTONISHING ACHIEVEMENT
Time: 2008 - 2009 Medium: Photography Dimension and quantity: 120cm x 96cm 1pc Dimension and quantity: 60cm x 90cm 8pcs Artist statement: Although they're small and blurred, those small objects still catch my focus immediately. I can't help trying to figure out what they are, what building they are and where they are. Where does the instinct come from? Maybe it's because those objects are all remarkable achievements. They were made with enormous intelligence, effort and cooperation. They grew from abstract and became entities in reality. Instead of their shapes, the marvel that they came from nothing is what really interests me. "Man-Made" is the exclusive praise for them and is also the aura attracting me, as a human being. If the buildings represent the existence of human, then the overwhelming sky means the nil of human -- nature. It's quiet, introverted, boring, changeful yet common. It provokes neither excitement nor surprise. Any descriptions for it would be chiches. However it needs no descriptions or explanation. It's deep and endless. It contains everything including us and tolerates us for forgetting it. Staring at those man-made objects in my home town, I am fascinated. But the next moment I am ashamed of my own arrogance. Is it really something that our mind is capable to create so many? Could we be proud of it? Or it's rather nothing comparing to the infinity we are in? I could hardly answer. The works are my humble description of the ambiguity between human and nature. |
